Welcome to the County Longford Scuba Divers Snorkeling Web Page
The Snorkeling element of the Club has developed over recent years. The Junior Snorkeling membership has expanded over recent years. The Club has facilitated training in conjunction with the rest of the Club members but, now recognizes the need to cater for the individual needs of the snorkeling members.
To this end, the Club is formerly developing the Snorkeling Club. This will require formal training of Snorkel Officers to oversee Pool training and technical training classes under CFT guidelines.
The Snorkeling training course is similar to the Diver, with slight variations in the lectures and Pool training cover all Dive activities with Bottle training elements.
The weekly trips to various Dive locations also support the Snorkeler members by running Boat trips, and snorkeling sessions in between Dive trips i.e. during Dive Surface interval. Popular Snorkeling locations are the cliffs off Teelin, Thumb rock off Mullaghmore, Newfy, in Kilkee and Glen Pier off the Skelligs.
The Clubs snorkeling activities include the "Annual Fin Swim", whereby the members fin from Rooskey to Tarmonbarry. An approximate 8 mile swim done by a team of least four to five members in relay. It's a tough grueling trip, particularly in October when the Club use to run the event, but, thankfully, last year's event was run off in the slighter warmer waters of the Shannon in August. This event helps to raise much needed funds for overall Club development.
