Dive Safety

The Club members are committed to Dive safety at all times. Sports Diving is a very interesting, rewarding and physically demanding, but, not without it's danger.  To this end, the Club adopts an intensive training program under the guidelines of the C.F.T. and CMAS.  The training encompasses all the learning's of numerous Dive organizations and years of experience in developing training programs for Sports Diving.

The development of a Diver is progressed in a graded training program which can begin at junior level starting with Snorkel training and move through the training program until 16 years of age whereby upon completion of training, one is old enough to dive in Open water.

Pool training begins in October and last until April. The training begins with simple Snorkeling techniques and progresses onto Bottle training after Christmas.  Each Pool session is followed up with a technical lecture on the various elements of Diving, i.e. Dive physics, Buoyancy, Respiration and Circulation, etc, etc: Refer to Lecture program for detail.

The move to open Water starts with open water snorkeling and then with shore dives to max depth of 10Meters.  Each dive outing is managed by a Dive Officer of the Day who briefs the Dive group, on Dive location, Sea conditions, tidal conditions, emergency response plan, selects Buddies dive teams, Coxswains, and Shore Marshals.  It is a tough job, but, there are various aids that help manage a safe Dive outing.

Before a Buddy team enters the Water, the Buddy check the other person equipment and vice versa.  When a dive is completed, a dive debrief is given: Any safety incidents are reviewed by the Clubs Diving Officer and Safety Officer. It is advised that all Buddy groups take a SMB(Surface Marker Buoy) when diving.

The Club have adopted a policy of requesting each Club Diver to demonstrate CPR skills every year in order to Dive. We also encourage all Club Divers to complete Diver Medic and Rescue Diver courses.  The Club also ensure that each Club member's Equipment service history is up to date before diving.

That is all for now, Safe diving is a priority always!!!!!
