Malta Trip

A large group of our divers and their families travelled to Malta September staying in the Qwara resort. A week of fantastic diving with the Dive Deep Blue team was well enjoyed by all.

Honda 50 Run 2010

Official Opening of Clubhouse

The official opening of the Co Longford Scuba Diver's Clubhouse took place on Sunday 18th October 2009. The opening ceremony was conducted by Finbar Murphy (CFT Chairman) Gerry Brady (Founder Chairman) & James Hanley (Chairman) in the presence of  the Clergy, local representatives, former members, neighbouring clubs, members friends & family. All present celebrated another fantastic milestone for the club.

Worlds Longest Scuba Dive

Ten members of the club will take part in assisting two brothers in a Guinness World Record attempt on the 10th & 11th October next. All monies raised from the event will go to CD' Helping Hands and St Raphael's Children's Ward. For futher information, log on to www.worldslongestscubadive.com

Annual Flag Day

The club will hold its annual flag day in Co Longford on Saturday 26th September next to raise funds for the club. Your support on the day will be greatly appreciated.

Try-A-Dive

The club will be offering Try-A-Dive sessions in the Longford Pool starting at 8pm sharp on Friday 25 next for three nights. Any one interested in becoming a diver is welcome to attend. Please confirm your attendance with contact details to longfordscubadivers@gmail.com

Rescue Diver

Congratulations to Neil Chalander who passed his rescue Diver test at St John's Pt recently. Neil achieved the highest possible grade on the day.. Well done!

Kerry Holiday

A large number of our members and their families travelled to Port Magee in Kerry for a great week of diving off Bray Hd and Puffin Island. Thankfully the sun was shining all week while the rest of the country endured the rain. Special thank to Charlie and Brendan who acted as DOD's for the week

New Club Facility

Phase 2 of construction of our Boathouse & Training Facility started in June which is expected to be completed by the end of October 2009

Open Water Training

Congratulations to all the new trainees who braved the cold water of the Shannon recently to conduct their first open water dive. It was a bit of a shock to the system after a long winter training in the warm water of the Longford Swimming Pool. Well done to all concerned. 03/09

A Winter trip to Egypt

Club members took a well deserved trip to Sharm El Sheik in Egypt to dive in the Red Sea. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic week of diving in the area which included excursions to Ras Mohammad, Ras Umm Sid, Yolanda Reef, and an unforgettable dive in the WWII Thislegorm wreck. There is loads of underwater photos and video available for the clubs archives. Definitely a return trip in the future. 01/09

Try - a - Dive

A large number of interested candidates attend our recent Try - a - Dive sessions in the Longford swimming pool. Well done to everyone. Its important that all club members attend to help out with the new trainees and remember to bring in spare equipment.

Sod is turned on Site for New Club Facility

After many years of waiting and tireless fundraising, the Co Longford Scuba Divers turned the sod on their site which will see the construction of a 220 sqm building to store its equipment and become a permanent base for the clubs activities. Work is expected to be completed early in 2009. 09/08

Barge Sinks in Tarmonbarry

Club members assisted the owner of a barge which mysteriously sank near the lock gates in Tarmonbarry. After several unsuccessful attempts by a salvage company to re-float the 15 ton barge, a large crane was drafted in to lift the vessel. After several hours of underwater work by our team preparing for the lift, the barge re appeared on the surface and was lifted safely onto shore. 09/08

Chernobyl BBQ

13 children from Chernobyl and their sponsor families attended the Co Longford Scuba Divers annual Chernobyl BBQ in Barley harbour. Everyone had a fantastic time with good food, music, dance, fireworks and boat trips. A special presentation was made to Jimmy Clancy, founder member of the club, for his dedication and service to the club down through the years.

Royal Canal News

Members of our Search & Rescue Unit featured in the Royal Canal News recently where they gave a demonstration on Search & Rescue at the Boat Rally in Abbyshrule 08/08

Co Longford Scuba Divers receives major funding boost

The Co Longford Scuba Divers were granted 55,000 euro from the Sports Capital Programme towards the construction of a building to store their boats and equipment. This grant was a major boost to the fundraising by the club towards the establishment of a permanent base in Longford. 07/08

Diving in Sardinia

A large group of divers from the club, together with friends and families travelled to Alghero in Sardinia for a week of sunshine and diving. Everyone had a fantastic time with some brilliant diving in the reserves and many underwater caves. 07/09

Underwater Searches

Our sincere thanks to all our members who participated in a number of searches lately in Ballymahon, Galway, Mullahoran and Longford. Well done to all concerned. 04/08

Club Averts Boating Catastrophe

"A potential disaster was adverted on the River Shannon at Tarmonbarry when members from the Co Longford Scuba Divers managed to take control of two drifting pontoons..." as reported in the Longford Leader on Feb 29th last. Club members managed to retrieve and secure the two 42 tonne barges in strong currents on the River Shannon. The barges measuring 80ft long were used for work on the hydro electric station when they were cut loose by vandals. Feb '08

Search & Recovery

There was a large turn out of our members to help out in the search of the Camlin for an elderly local man believed to have fallen into the river. An extensive search of the area in very rough conditions was initially unsuccessful, however the body was recovered some days later when the water levels receded. Thanks to all who helped out. Our condolences to the family.

Tidiest of Towns

The club have recently featured on RTE's Tidiest of Towns Programme which showed our members trawling the Camlin River in Longford removing any rubbish. Good work guys!

Try-A-Dive

The Co Longford Scuba Divers held their AGM on the 4th Oct last in the Slashers Complex. The Executive Committee for 2007/2008 was successfully elected (see Club Structure)

Sports Capital Funding

The club were successful in acquiring 15,000 euro in their funding application for a new state of the art compressor which will arrive soon

Christmas Party

Club Holiday 2008

Rose Kane and her team are busy checking out a range of destinations for the club holiday in July '08. The club holidays have been a huge success down through the years and we're sure this one will be no different. Final details will be announced before the end of October

Pool Training

Pool training will officially start in the Mall Complex on Friday 19th Oct next at 8pm. John Malone will be in attendance with equipment for sale for the new trainees.
